As owner of Phaseshift Productions, Lawrie is not afraid to get his hands dirty. Although Phaseshift is now a far cry from the original one man gig of 1992, Lawrie can still be seen at 3am loading out with the crew he calls, ‘his boys’.

From the age of 16, Lawrie was running mobile discos with a couple of mates for local parties and school socials. He soon moved up to working with cover bands, setting up and operating their lights.

Lawrie found a niche in the market, and purchasing some lights of his own, began hiring to cover bands around Melbourne. This venture quickly grew and in 1992, although Lawrie still considered it a hobby, he moved out of his garage and into a small factory in Moorabbin.

In 1996, Lawrie decided to take the plunge and turn Phaseshift Productions into a full time career. With lots of hard work and advice, the business began to get a name around town and he soon needed extra hands to help with the work load. Over the next few years, Phaseshift continued to expand, doing more jobs and buying more lights. The number of full time staff grew from 1 to 7.

2004 brought the factory to where it is today in Cheltenham, having outgrown the space in Moorabbin. With more full time staff, a host of casuals, and high end shows to prep for, Lawrie has brought himself and Phaseshift Productions a long way from his mobile disco days.
